Our Identity
Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, narrated:
Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) transmitted it from the Blessed and Great Lord: Verily Allah recorded the good and the evil and then made it clear that he who intended good but did not do it, Allah recorded one complete virtue in his favor, but if he intended it and also did it, the Glorious and Great Allah recorded ten to seven hundred virtues and even more to his credit. But if he intended evil but did not commit it, Allah wrote down one full virtue in his favor. If he intended that and also committed it, Allah made an entry of one evil against him.Hadith number 76 in Sahih Muslim
Who strive at a level that gives them Imtiaz over others,
And when you mix that with Akhuwa, you have a true gifts Essence
Joining together to achieve the Husna and more that Allah has promised
So Mission Conviction, until the Sibgha of Allah is established
Tayybah, where what we’re building requires two Ammar’s.
And students from City Gamea, Queens, Long Island, near and Far
And amongst themselves, they have the Ni’mah of kind advice
With Sincerity, Love and Mercy, so our Flow’s SLM
And the Quran and Sunnah is our Farooq, in what we differ in
They talk a great deal ‘ya’ni’, too many Islamified Brooklynites (two in 1)
But they bring forth action that has, Sultan of the liwa in their sites
But greater than the liwaa, is the status of being Alghareeb
Having Hidayaa at a time, when most people are deceived
A status that’s Aziz, for all who know it’s standing
And the target is far, so our Rami better come correct
And if he should lose focus, NYbrothers can keep him in check
I ask Allah, the Lord of Gibreel, Mikaeel and Israfeel too
For the NafsulMutma’inah for myself and you
And to be sources of light, like the Hala in the nights canopy
So if you’re asked who’s that lover of Tayybah, say “Iss ME”
In the winter of 2005, a group of dedicated young New Yorkers with a vision to make AlMaghrib institute a part of the NYC muslim landscape, embarked on a journey.
Our goal is to change Muslims into a better people, and hence they named themselves as As-Sabiqoon, the first and foremost to work for Islam.
We represent a portion of a large Muslim population in New York, willing and dedicated to find solutions to the problems facing Muslims today. We are young eager students who have volunteered our time and energy for the spread of Islamic knowledge to muslims and non-muslims. Build our own understanding of who we are and share with the NYC and the world at large, the message of Islam, the way of life.
We hope and pray that institutions like AlMaghrib will provide a key to open the light of Islam in the Big Apple. This is the future we hope to build.
What does the name AlMaghrib mean?
Even to a seasoned Arabic ear, the name ‘AlMaghrib’ carries with it a collage of connotations and images. To some, it may remind them of a land – ancient Andalus or the Northwest lands of Muslim Africa. To others, the name may offer a feeling of heritage, a heritage of advanced Islamic Scholarship and disciplinea nd yet some – perhaps this is what you pictured – envision the sun embracing the ocean announcing the beginning of a new Islamic day …… you’re like, “Umm… no, actually I was thinking Maghrib prayer.”
What is AlMaghrib Institute?
To study overseas is indeed a very enriching experience, but not everyone is blessed with such an opportunity. Hectic schedules often sideline in-depth study of Islam. It is for this reason that AlMaghrib Institute was established, and has dedicated itself to providing courses on Islam in a six-day, two weekend, intensive seminar format. These trademark double-weekend university-style seminars carry students toward a bachelor’s degree in the Islamic Studies.
Following the ’seminar’ style of education, AlMaghrib takes the traditional semester long course, condenses it into six days, and produces an Islamic educational experience that is unique. Our aim is to empower Muslims, two weekends at a time, to carry the message of Allah and His Messenger. Alhamdulillah, AlMaghrib Institute currently has the largest Islamic Studies student body in North America!
Al Maghrib seminars are fun, engaging, and information-packed! Seminars are presently conducted in over ten U.S. cities and four cities in Canada. Attending a seminar means being surrounded by energized students and being taught, live and in person, by an AlMaghrib certified instructor.
AlMaghrib Institute’s admissions and enrollment policies do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, age, disability, or other status protected by law. AlMaghrib Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization candidate.
